I was about to quote some lyrics from Manic Street Preachers but that would be very inappropriate and I doubt we’ll hear that song for a long time.
I normally purposefully stear well clear of current affairs on this blog, on the board and anywhere else on t’internet because usually I can’t really be bothered to actually follow through with an argument, I don’t have all the facts, I’m not well-informed and in most cases I’m not particuarly bothered unless it affects my life. Selfish, yes. But at least I’m being truthful.
The Tsunami was a disaster and the worst one I’ve ever witnessed (via TV) in my life. I can’t say I’m not in the slightest bit affected by it, that’d be lying. I would be lying to be saying I’m laying awake thinking about it at night, I’ve got other things to worry about (check the previous post for example.)
I do wish I could help with the relief effort and if the chance arose to go over and do something productive then I would, if the chance arose to to put some of my computer skills to use to help, or anything then I wouldn’t turn it down. I just can’t donate money. Mainly because I don’t have any, not even the few pounds that everyone is donating. This has come at the month where I’m wondering whether I will actually have somewhere to live at the end of the month. I know that everyone will be saying “well, they don’t have a a place to live” which is true. But self survival is the way I live. If I’ve not got a house I’ll be mightily upset, if they don’t have a house then true it’s upsetting, but it’s not my problem.
I know I probably do sound completely selfish, but I make no appologies for it. If I had spare money I would give it. I am giving at work… not a lot but we’re helping.

Even though SO many more people have died and the devastation is much more widespread and will affectr the country much more, I found 9/11 more horrific and devastating. Maybe because 9/11 was something which another human inflicted on those people, whereas this was a natural disaster. Does that make it easier to accept? I also feel that the news coverage has not been so.. smoothering. I don’t think there was anyone in the country who didn’t know 9/11 happened. It was on every channel 24/7. However, this has had the odd update on the death toll and that’s it. There is more information in the papers, even the Sun. It just seems to me that we took it worse when the disaster happened which could affect out civilised nation, rather than a natural disaster that happened to *them* not *us.*
