Okay, so the difference this week on the Friday (Sunday) five? Well, there’s more of a nostalgic feel about them. The reason? I haven’t really had much time to download any music this week as I’ve been a busy bee (see below post) to be sitting at the computer streaming some kick ass music all day. So, here are some of the oldies that I am still loving.
Semisonic - Closing Time
So gather up your jackets, move it to the exits
I hope you have found a friend
Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end
Semisonic, another 90’s band that’s possibly coming back. This is a fantastic song that has to be listened to at very loud volumes through speakers that are able to really make it sound good. Of course, you could also have someone sing it live for you. But that doesn’t always happen.
Simple Plan - Perfect
I try not to think about the pain I feel inside
Did you know you used to be my hero?
All the days you spent with me, now seem so far away
And it feels like you don’t care anymore
A pretty fitting song about my Dad. Someone who I’ve pretty much lost any big bond with. Back when I was little I wanted to be just like him. Now… I’d just like to be able to have a nice conversation with him that didn’t feel as awkward as they all do. Mine or his fault? Six of one, half a dozen of the other.
Lit - My Own Worst Enemy
It’s no suprise to me I am my own worst enemy
‘Cause every now and then I kick the living shit out of me
What a song to sing, loud in the car going at 100+MP/H. It needs to be screamed, it does. And this song, God… Probably from when I was first ever on the ‘net and downloading stuff off the first incarnation of Napster. Ah, the days before life got so stressful.
Five for Fighting - Easy Tonight
Woman, I ain’t going to meet you anywhere
Don’t know where I’m going yet
But I sure am getting there
A dark song about a guy whose girlfriend commits suicide and he’s basically trying to carry on. Oh if only I was that lucky, eh? :p
unbelievable truth - History/Fiction
And to know, you could have thrown us out of sync
Like breathing when you try too hard
And to know, you could have shaken us away
Made us see it as a waste of time
Obviously my favourite “depressing music” band of all time. I love the unbelievable truth. The guitar and build-ups on this song rock. Plus it has some excellent quotable lyrics that I used to use a lot when I was a member of the UBB. Oh, the shame
You may of noticed that I’ve linked all the lyrics to their relevant SongMeanings page, so that you can see a bit of chatter on what other people think of the song. I was undecided as to whether to link to their last.fm page or the SM one. I chose this as it probably gives a better background to the song and it gives the full lyrics on that page.
Anyways, have fun downloading!
Love is a many splendorous thing
