So, it’s the Tuesday five, slightly delayed from Friday. I’ve been busy, bite me. I’m sure I’ll post more of what we’ve been up to over the past few days but basically it’s been a few days of saying goodbye to Shou and hanging out with the houseys and also a weekend of coach travel going back to Leicester to see Martyn for his 50th. All in all an enjoyable week. Yay me!
So, onto five tracks that you should definitely listen to if you have the time. Obviously, only if you like the stuff I normally recommend.
Captain - Glorious
They don’t like it,
they don’t like the way you look
Do you care about it?
This song came out probably the middle of last year and got a fair amount of airplay on stations like XFM and a few of the more mainstream pop stations. I heard it in (of all places) Dorothy Perkins the other day and I really liked it. Downloaded it and it’s good. I love the intro, beautiful.
Barenaked Ladies - Another Postcard
You can’t imagine so many monkeys in the daily mail
All of them coming anonymously so they leave no trail
I never thought I’d have an admirer from overseas
But someone is sending me stationary filled with chimpanzees.
One of my favourite BNL songs, although I tend to like most of their old stuff and some of the new stuff. Possibly about a stalker, possibly about spam, possibly about the things we collect through our life, possibly about one postcard that was sent to Ed by his neighbour. Which is it? Who cares, it’s fantastic. Hell, they have chimps dressed up in women’s underwear
End of Fashion - O Yeah
So you want to talk about it for a while. O Yeah?!
So you went school to relearn how to smile. O Yeah?!
She said la de da de dream, she said come on. O Yeah?!
Not hugely deep. But very good for when you’re just in one of them moods where you need to scream. Ah, if only I had my car to sing loudly. I’d only upset Tian if I did that now. And some of the beat changes rule.
Eve 6 - Girlfriend
You’re really gone, girlfriend, the dryers on, amen.
and I’m alone for the first time.
You left a sock, girlfriend. Where’s the pair, broken?
Are you aware that I’m missing you?
Eve 6, fantastic band. A pretty sad song about a guy that’s just had his girl leave him but is determined not to be broken. I used to love playing this on the way back from Leicester to Nottingham at 2/3 in the morning loud in the car and sing my little heart out. I never thought it would come true. 哈哈
The Cat Empire - The Car Song
Shit! And look at me can’t think of anything better to do
That just sit down at the piano and write this tune
Apart from having such a kick ass name. The band apparently combines “a fusion of jazz, ska, funk and rock with heavy Latin influences.” The song rocks, it’s just a happy sing a long, dance a long. About growing up and realizing that you’ve not actually achieved anything, I’d guess.
So… anyways… have fun and stay tuned for a new update at some point in the future as long as I get some time as opposed to eating and working
Love, Peace & Chicken Grease
