So, another cop out week. But next week I may have some free time to actually listen to some decent new music as we’ve finished dressing the shop and it looks sexier than you could ever imagine. Well, okay, not quite. But it’s still quite an achievement. This week after listening to some live music I thought I’d do the best a cappella stuff. Hope you enjoy.
The Xtension Chords - Inside Out (Video)
I alone am the one you don’t know you need.
Take heed. Feed your ego.
Make me blind when your eyes close sink.
When you get close, tie me to the bedpost.
Fantastic performance considering how hard the song is to sing. And the guys look like dudes in their mechanics shirts! :p
MIT Resonance - Mr. Brightside (Video)
Now they’re going to bed
And my stomach is sick
And it’s all in my head
But she’s touching his—chest
A co-ed a capella group studying at MIT. Covering The Killers anthemic Mr. Brightside in fantastic style. Even down to the funky dancing that the backing “singers” do. Plus, the girls look pretty cute and if that’s not reason for me to put it in then I don’t know what is! Another good reason would be that they kick ass and they also did a female solo version of Maroon 5’s Harder to Breathe which also includes some funky dancing. Also they have studio CDs which include RHCP’s Fortune Faded, Matchbox Twenty’s Unwell and Goo Goo Doll’s Here is Gone.
Carleton Singing Knights - Hello / Goodbye (Video)
You say yes, I say no,
You say stop, I say go, go, go.
Oh no.
You say goodbye and I say hello, hello, hello.
I don’t know why you say goodbye I say hello, hello, hello.
The classic Beatles song done a capella.
Redefined - Japan “Art Piece” (Video)
Super Mario World!
Tetris, Mortal Kombat…
The University of Wisonsin’s A Capella group “Redefined” perform some of Nintendo’s classic game songs as well as performing some of the games.. The Tetris and Mario ones are fantastic!
The Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones - Over My Head (Cable Car) (Video)
But that’s how it’s got to be
It’s coming down to nothing more than apathy
I’d rather run the other way than stay and see
The smoke and who’s still standing when it clears
The Veritones are smart looking and sing very well. To be honest I could of put any one of their songs on here as there’s some fantastic ones such as BNL’s It’s All Been Done, Gwen Stefani’s Sweet Escape, Evanescence’s My Immortal or even Nine Day’s If I am. I just may have to buy their album.
I could literally go on all day about the fantastic music that these people make, because it’s amazing. So talented and so cool. And there’s so much I could of easily done a top 30 or whatever. Another great bunch are the guys called Logarhythms from MIT who do excellent versions of Sugarcult’s Memory and Snow Patrol’s Run.
So… go Blues!
