…was your great escape

I have a day off… and I’ve been up for 6 hours so far and i’ve done… bugger all really. I’ve made some cheese on toast and watched about four episodes of House and one of SVU. I *was* planning on heading down the Post Office today, but I’m guessing that will have to wait. News in the world of me? My immediate boss is leaving on Friday which, technically, means me and the support manager are the boss for the period upon when we get a replacement, which will be a few months. Although it’s not all doom and gloom as we’ve pretty much been doing that for the past three months since we knew he was leaving, just not when and he’s been “preparing us.”

And that’s about it

I was at work the other day and on the radio came Umbrella, that hated Rihanna song, only this time it wasn’t my least favourite “RnB” singer, singing it. It was a more rocky version.. And surprisingly it was pretty good. I later learned it was McFly and felt like slicing my ears off and then spitting on them for betraying me so badly. But these things happen and today I went in search of said McFly song and found that not only have McFly covered the song but pretty much every other person under the Sun has.. Take a look at Wikipedia’s cover section for the single to see some of the more notable people that have. Something I also didn’t realise before reading that page was that it was the world’s “biggest” song last year, not sure in terms of what, but it was. It was also at number 1 in 17 billion countries. Amazing stuff. And I just thought it was another catchy, yet ultimately, annoying pop tune. Anyways, in honour of this, I thought I’d let you share in the pain of listing my favourite five cover versions of this great song.

McFly
Starting off with pop’s favourite “we’re trying to be rock stars, but ultimately we’ll just end up like Busted” group. McFly. I put it here because it merely sparked my interest, although maybe I should curse it for making me spend the last hour or so listening to that infernal song that is now stuck in my head! God damn you, Rihanna, anna, anna, ay, ay, ay…

As I’m taking all the videos from YouTube it seems only natural to feature someone who has made a name for themselves by doing amateur sets on the video website after finding her own label not doing enough promoting and is actually fucking awesome. Amazing voice, very cute and no doubt onto many wonderous things. Her only problem is she can’t pronounce umbrella.. But, hey, an umbella sounds very cute even if it doesn’t keep you dry. In fact you should listen to her other songs, too. Especially the covers of One of Us, Love Hurts and What I’ve Done by Linkin Park. I absolutely love covers that sound nothing like the original and that doesn’t.

Vanilla Sky
In my opinion, the best version. That’s why I saved it to last. This is musically my favourite, but also the video is hillarious also. It rips off most of the bits from the official video such as the “sexy” dancing, the getting soaked and the (what I think is meant to be) pole dancing with the umbrella.. Only swap a “hot” girl for some not at all hot Italian singers. Fantastic.
