Links

Here are a collection of links which I’d *love* for you to visit. No honest.

Blog-type links

I currently read a few blogs, here are some that I don’t mind you knowing about…

  • Post Secret - The original write a secret on a postcard and send it to a site site.
  • Jono Bacon - LugRadio presenter and “Open Source celebrity”
  • Aq - Another LugRadio presenter. Lots of technical goodness in this blog, and lots of ranting about our freedom as a community.
  • Hestia - Old Moletalker. Unique sense of humour and ranting and usually some mentions of chocolate or good music.
  • Michelle - Shell, used to live with her back in Nottingham. Another geeky computery person :)
  • Dvorak - Dvorak’s blog about politics and other random acts of stupidity and techie stuff.
  • Jess - Jessica, or PinkTribeChick, is cool, a fantastic writer and someone that trusted my editorial skills. What was she thinking?! Good friend and a blog full of random musings.
  • Mark Shuttleworth - The first South African in space and now the God of all things *buntu.
  • Wil Wheaton - One time child star and now tech journalist, author and self described geek. Presenter of InDigital.
  • Techie

A lot of my time is spent reading up on the latest tech, software and stuff.. Here are a few sites I read.

  • Slashdot - Despite everyone continually slagging it off for it’s unbiased news coverage it’s still a great site for compacting News for Nerds, stuff that matters
  • Digg - An excellent user contributed and moderated news site with a slant towards tech and Apple. Weekly vidcast of the top stories from the week is Diggnation presented by Alex Albrecht & Kevin Rose.
  • OSNews - Sometimes this site picks up on stuff that interests me that the big sites don’t. Unfortunately it is ran by the most obnoxious personality I’ve ever came accross!
  • El ‘Reg - UK Tech news with a bite and home of the BofH since ~2000.
  • eBuyer - If you can’t get it from here it’s probably not worth having.
  • Linux Links

Here are links to sites that have helped me find the solution to some problems I’ve encountered whilst being a Linux user and just some general Linux links.

  • Mandrake Users - A pretty generic place to start at… help with Mandrake. Simple.
  • Ubuntu Forums - A very good site for an excellent distribution. A very friendly crowd. Too.
  • LUGRadio - The best open source radio station on the planet, no really. Listen to Jono, Matt, Aq and On Call Bald talk and rant about stuff that isn’t on the agenda and maybe get round to something that is. I have all the eps so far burnt onto an MP3 CD and have it in the car for when I’m in the mood.
  • In the real world…

And now some links to things that interest me in the real world.

  • Tube Links - Here is a collection of some links about the London Underground, a subject that interests me… Yes, I am sad.
  • Subterranea Brit - Going into places where you’re not meant to.
  • UER - The Urban Exploration Resource. A fantastic site bringing together a shit ton of photos and forums for UrbEx stuffs. A real good read when you’re in the mood for an adventure but too lazy to go dig out the torch.
  • 28 Days Later - 28 Days Later is a UK based forum for Urban Explorators or those just a little intrigued. Usually some good photos and write ups along with the usual politics and squabbles in every forum.
  • Retail-y

Some links that relate to my unexplainable love of all things retail..

  • Labelscar - Labelscar is a site ran by two guys (Ross & Jason) who have spent the past 10+ years going round malls of America/Canada and picturing/detailing them. They specifically like malls that, like time capsules, have preserved their historic roots.
  • Deadmalls dot com - Deadmalls literally is a huge list of descriptions/pictures of malls that have died or are on the brink of death in America. LOTS of detail here.
  • Groceteria - A look at the history of the American supermarket, both design wise and business wise.
  • Caldor Rainbow - A blog that looks at retail history, but more specifically those of chain stores which have since met their demise. Caldor, Braddles, Ames etc. etc.
  • Funnies

Some sites that amuse me and get me through the week.

  • Bash.org - A collection of some the best (and sickest) IRC quotes
  • QDB.us - The poor man’s bash.
  • B3ta.com - The best photoshopping site there is.
  • Eric does Emotion - As the site says…
  • Overheard In New York - Those New Yorkers aren’t half funny, especially when loud and on a train. Read what people hear, here.
  • That’s all for now.
